Sony's latest system software update for the PlayStation 5 is now available worldwide. The Version 7 update includes several quality-of-life improvements and new features for the console.
Discord Integration
One of the most exciting features of the update is the integration of Discord voice chat. PlayStation 5 players can now join Discord voice chats directly from their consoles, which is especially helpful for multiplatform games. Users must link their Discord and PlayStation Network accounts to enable voice chat.
Improved Visual Performance
The update also includes variable refresh rate (VRR) support for 1440p displays. This feature allows the monitor to sync its refresh rate to the console's frame rate, resulting in better visual performance. Many PC gamers use 1440p VRR monitors, so this feature is particularly helpful for those who use their PlayStation 5 alongside their PC.

Voice Commands for Gameplay Clips
The Version 7 update also introduces the ability to use voice commands to capture gameplay clips. Users in the US and UK can say, "Hey PlayStation, capture that," to save a clip of their gameplay. Alternatively, they can direct the console to save a clip of a specific length by saying, "Hey PlayStation, capture the last [X] minutes [or seconds]." Voice commands can be enabled from the system menu, and users can use a headset microphone, the microphone on a DualSense controller, or a PlayStation camera.
Other Improvements
The PS5's software update also includes several other improvements, including:
- Updating the DualSense controller wirelessly
- Transferring data and games between PS5 consoles via LAN or local Wi-Fi connections

- Accessing authorized third-party apps and services linked to your PlayStation Network account
- Using Unicode 15.0 emoji in messages

PS4 Firmware Update
In addition to the PS5 update, Sony has also released a new firmware update for the PlayStation 4. The version 10.50 update includes the ability to access authorized apps, use Unicode 15.0 emoji in messages, and see which players in your session are playing on other platforms.
Steps to Set Up Discord on PS5
Discord has recently been integrated into the PS5, allowing players to join voice chats with their friends on the popular app. Here are the steps to set up Discord on your PS5:
Step 1: Update Your System
Ensure that your PS5 is updated to the latest version. If it’s not, sign in to your system and greenlight the update when it pops up. This update is essential for the integration to work.
Step 2: Link Discord and PSN
On your desktop or mobile, open Discord and go to User Settings, then Connections. You should see a PlayStation icon. Click on it and sign in to your PSN account. Discord will then ask you to authorize access to your account so you can use the chat functionality.
Step 3: Sign In and Authorize
Once you have authorized access, you will be able to use Discord’s chat functionality. You can also select voice controls on mobile and select the new “Join on PlayStation” option.
Step 4: Use the Join on PlayStation Option
On desktop, click on the button that has a phone and a video game controller. This will give you the same option as the mobile version.
Step 5: Get Familiar with the UI
Once you’ve joined the voice chat on your console, you will see the voice channel and volume controls. You can also use your DualSense controller’s built-in mic to talk if you don’t have a headset.
By following these steps, you can easily set up Discord on your PS5 and join voice chats with your friends. It’s a great way to enhance your gaming experience and stay connected with your friends.
